Narziß und Goldmund coverWith a delay of about 2 years ‘Nariß und Goldmund’ is finally released. Good work needs time. And it took me quite a while to find the right materials to make this CD at home, just check ‘The making of Narziß and Goldmund‘ to read more about my quest for quality.

The album consists of 9 improvised tracks recorded on different locations between 2006 and 2010. The liner notes written by Paul and me, and printed in Dutch and English, reflect our thoughts on how our music came to be.

“Each peace of music has its own story, its own past and its own future.
For me making music, improvising in particular, is stopping and letting go of everything you think you can and think you know. As an improvising musician it is a challenge to be receptive to what is unfolding in the here and now, without striving, without control and without expectations. The story begins and ends from itself.”

Paul wrote, opening his liner notes. And the particular past of this music started in 2000 with the NEBO sessions. With ‘Fundament’ to be precise. Our first real improvised music. Real in the way as Paul states in his words above, it came without striving, control and expectations. Beginning and ending from itself. After that, it became much more difficult to let go of our desires to re-create such a moment.

“And here it is, this album presents a selection of moments in which Paul and I simultaneously shared and recognised the music we were making whilst making it.”

I wrote in my notes. But also,

“Narziß und Golmund holds nine of those moments in which something happened I cannot explain.”

And for now, I’ll leave it at that and at stating that this Album is the culmination of more than ten years of improvisation, and made to honour the music that came to us.
